Beautiful Sacrifice

I was reflecting on the two following passage which led me to write the poem 'Beautiful Sacrifice.' The first half of the poem is what Jesus went through; the second is my response to him.

God made him

who had no sin to be sin for us,

so that in him we might

become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:21

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God

something to be grasped,
7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9Therefore God exalted him

to the highest place
and gave him the name

that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth

and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:6-11

Beautiful Sacrifice

Bruised body

Eternal wounds

Agonizing separation

Utterly broken for me

Took my place

In death, he gave life

Faithful obedience

Unending Holiness

Love so real

Salvation freely given

Amazing grace

Create a clean heart

Redeemed, set free

Fall on my knees

I praise you O Lord

Come live in me

Everlasting life with you

What an amazing thing- Jesus, who had glory and honor, humbled himself to death, so that we might live through him.  He paid our death penalty so that we would not have too. He ransomed us- so that we could live freely in him.

He became sin- a defiled, ugly, disgusting pile of worthlessness- he took on the suffering of the world- so that we could have eternal life.

Oh Jesus, please help me never to forget what a precious sacrifice you made.  If you can give up your life for me, help me to give up my life in service to you.  Lord, you gave yourself in death, so that I could live!
