My pastor on Sunday, April 30, 2006 had an incredible sermon from Ephesians 1:7.

He took each phrase and broke it down.  It was so encouraging to me today!  Here are my notes.

'In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of God's grace.'  Ephesians 1:7

IN HIM

In Jesus

Not because of our own goodness or our religious works.

WE HAVE

We, all who are believers, now have redemption.

REDEMPTION

(To set free, to deliver from by a payment of a price)

We are set free from the power of sin to serve God and to do what is right.

THROUGH HIS BLOOD

The price for redemption is blood from a perfect sacrifice and Jesus was able, willing and paid that price.

THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS

The Greek for forgiveness in this passage literally means to release or to send away.

ACCORDING TO THE RICHES OF GOD’S GRACE

God is rich in mercy and grace and in love.

I’m not sure who said this but Pastor quoted it ‘The law shows me how crooked I am, then grace comes along and straightens me out.”

The Redeemed belongs to the Redeemer; therefore we should serve God with all of our hearts!

My conclusion after his message was: to reject Jesus is so say he has not paid enough for us.
